BENEFITS OF ALLOTMENT GARDENING

It may start off as a hobby. Soon time spent in your allotment garden growing vegetables becomes your haven. A place away from the noise of the town or city. Once you harvest and eat your first crops, well your passion grows.

Health Benefits

There are many health benefits of being in your allotment. Especially because you’re outside. Studies have shown fresh air can help lower blood pressure and heart rate. As well as giving you more energy and aiding mental focus. Improving digestion is also an advantage of being outside. This is great as you’ll now have your own grown fruit and veg to eat.

Keeping active is, of course, a major main health benefit of allotment gardening. There is always something that can or needs doing on the plot. Whether it’s preparing soil, planting, tending crops or general maintenance.

You will find yourself using more energy than most leisure gardeners. Which can be tiring. But the satisfaction of seeing your results will be immense.

Know your Food

It’s wonderful to have food on your table that is grown by yourself. This is the true ‘Field to Fork’ ideal. But the benefits go way beyond being able to say, ‘I grew that.’

Allotment garden growing means you have control over the way food is grown. You control what goes into the soil. As well as the type and amount of pesticides that you use.

At Silver Acres we have switched to Organic Growing. Some view this as harder and more expensive. If you follow us you can find out how true this is.

But, we know organic is not for everyone. And we believe that the choice is always yours.
